RV Couch Shopping is a Nightmare. Here’s the Sleeper Sofa That Saved Us.

We found the used motorhome that would become The Diesel Apartment on a farm slash RV dealership in the middle of Ohio. The previous owner kept the original furniture, and the dealership played motorhome furniture roulette to fill in the gaps.

We planned to yeet a few pieces of furniture from our house into the motorhome, so missing the original setup didn’t bother us.

A dated leaf table sat where a dinette had once been. It got whisked off to a thrift store almost immediately. But the other piece, an aggressively beige RV sleeper sofa, stayed. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked. Until it didn’t.

Three years in, the coating flaked off like a bad sunburn, the mattress wore thin, and the support bar made its presence known in ways our backs deeply resented. It was time for an upgrade.

Finding an RV Sleeper Sofa Shouldn’t Be This Hard

One of us snores, and the other wakes up every time a mouse farts, so separate sleeping spaces were mandatory. We took turns sleeping on the couch, but that plan fell apart. Literally. When the sofa did.

We had our eyes on a sofa from IKEA, but pandemic supply chain issues kept it permanently out of stock. After a year of waiting, we started researching other options.

We considered a CouchBed. We had one in our adventure trailer, and it worked well, but that company also had stock issues. When we reached out, they told us they hoped to restock soon, but had no timeline. My back needed a timeline.

Why RV Couch Shopping Feels Impossible

Buying a couch for an RV isn’t like buying a couch for a house. It has to fit your space. It has to fit through the door. And if you’re dealing with slides, it has to fit within a specific footprint.

Our motorhome has two 10-foot slides. One for the kitchen. The other for our office slash living room. That meant our entire living space had to accommodate a desk, a coffee table, and a couch. Anything wider than 80 inches was a no-go.

That ruled out most affordable options. And since we also needed something that came in pieces for easy transport, ordering from a traditional furniture store was off the table.

How We Finally Found an RV Sleeper Sofa That Didn’t Suck

After a few less than fruitful Google searches where the couches we found weren’t sleepers, they were way out of our budget, or they wouldn’t fit the space we had, we happened across a YouTube video for the Coddle Toggle couch

The Coddle Toggle is a convertible sleeper sofa with independently adjustable arms and backrests. It comes with an optional mattress pad that feels as comfortable as a “real” bed, and it folds up nicely for easy storage.

One feature the Toggle has that we love is built-in power outlets with 120v plugs and USB-A ports. You wouldn’t believe how convenient it is to plug things into your couch!

At the time I’m writing this, the Toggle comes in 7 different colors and two different finishes. We ended up with a Toggle in smoke suede.

It’s easy to clean and has held up to our shenanigans. And the shenanigans of a dog who visits from time to time. (I’m of the belief that furniture looks better with animal hair on it.)

A Surprisingly Smooth Delivery and Setup Process

Coddle worked with a delivery company, and the couch arrived in under a week. The delivery window was flexible. It showed up two hours early, and the RV park staff helped direct the truck to our site, and we suddenly owned a massive flat box.

Inside the box? Two pieces. The couch frame and the cushion. We skipped the setup service (an extra $100) because assembly was as easy as hauling the pieces through the door, muttering some obscenities, and dropping the couch onto its base.

Is the Coddle Toggle Still Worth It? Here’s What We Think

We’ve now had this couch for four years, and we’re thrilled with it. It’s the nicest couch we’ve ever had. Comfortable, easy to clean, and holds up to daily use.

Just like every other upgrade in our motorhome, we’re not sure how we lived with the original sleeper sofa for so long. The Coddle Toggle isn’t perfect. But it’s the best sleeper sofa for an RV that we’ve come across.

We’re not affiliated with Coddle. We’re just happy customers looking to share a good experience with fellow RVers who may be out there searching for sleeper sofa options.

If you’re looking for a couch for your RV, we can’t recommend Coddle enough. Everything about the process from ordering to delivery to set up was top-notch, and we’re thrilled with the couch so far.

Oh, and the most important part? It’s doggo approved.

A good RV sleeper sofa shouldn’t be this difficult to find. Neither should quality gear. We’ve put together a list of the RV essentials we actually use, love, and don’t regret buying.

If you’re tired of second-guessing every purchase, here’s what we recommend.
